Amp Service Upgrade
Amp Service Upgrade Installation.
The decision to upgrade a residential electrical system to a higher amperage should only be done based upon necessity. The cost of conversion form a 100 amp service to a 200 amp service is quite expensive. The conversion typically runs as high as $2,000. Homes built within the last 40 year all have circuit breaker panels with electrical service measured in amps, with the standards being 100, 150 and 200 for a typical home. If the home has a 100 amp service and there are no plans to add more electrical equipment like a hot water heater, air conditioning, electrical heater and etc., then there is no need to increase the size of the service.
Obviously, if you anticipate the need for an amp service upgrade, then the amp service increase becomes a necessity. A calculation on the service demands for the household will have to be done to determine how much more amperage is needed. A master electrician can help with that calculation.
