Martin County Florida BeachesMartin County Florida  Communities.

Located on Florida’s Atlantic coast, Martin County is surrounded by natural wonders that enhance the living experience of its communities. Because of its location on the Atlantic coast, in close proximity to the Atlantic Gulf stream, its climate is ideal.  Martin County’s average  year-round temperature is approximately 74 degrees.

Martin County consists of the City of Stuart and the towns of Jupiter Island, Ocean Breeze Park, and Sewall’s Point. It also includes the communities of Hobe Sound, Hutchinson Island, Indiantown, Jensen Beach, North River Shores, Palm City, Port Salerno, Rio, South County, and Tropical Farms.

Water definitely plays a big part of the Palm City/Stuart Florida experience. Located on two peninsulas separated by a bridge, Palm City and Stuart are more or less surrounded by water.

Stuart Florida is the only incorporated city in Martin County and thus its county seat.  It has be recognized and proclaimed ” The Most Beautiful City” in the United States. The city of Stuart is one of Martin Counties greatest treasures.  Its downtown area provides music and food festivals, art exhibits, scenic views, shops and restaurants and an overall sense of relaxation and entertainment.  Many visitors and residents enjoy strolling the boardwalk along the St. Lucie River in downtown Stuart or saltwater fishing the Atlantic Gulf Stream via access through the St. Lucie Inlet.

Stuart Florida is nicknamed  “Sailfish Capital of the World” for good reason.  Martin County is world renowned for its freshwater and saltwater fishing.  The St. Lucie River and Inlet provide access to both the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River, so sport and commercial fishing has always been a major attraction.

Located on Stuart’s eastern most border lies Hutchinson Island. Hutchinson Island maintains its own brand of charm as a popular, family-oriented seaside island that has retained its old-fashioned sense of community, offering residents and visitors access to miles of pristine shoreline along the aqua blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Its also home to the Elliot Museum, the historic House of Refuge and the Florida Oceanographic Society.

Hutchinson Island is a barrier island bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Indian River, part of the Intracoastal Waterway, on the west.

Built in the 1920’s by the Corps. of Engineers, the Intracoastal Waterway spans 2,455 miles of U.S. Atlantic Coast. Although the Waterway was originally intended for commercial traffic, when the natural saltwater lanes were merged with the man-made channels, enchanting marine passages were formed providing opportunities for all types of watercraft. Palm City/Stuart marinas dot the Waterway and offer safe harbor to yachts and sailboats traveling between New England and the Florida Keys, and beyond.

The creation of the Waterway also provided vast new habitats for avian and marine wildlife. The many creeks and estuaries up and down the Waterway offer nature lovers hours of entertainment watching the teeming wildlife.

Martin Counties incorporated town of Sewall’s Point lies south of Jensen Beach and borders the Atlantic.  It is a charming peninsula town that has changed from a vacation town to a home to many younger families and full-time residents.  It is an affluent town with tree-lined streets and many beautiful estate homes.  Incorporated in 1957, it boasts a high quality of life with small-town character.
